Jumpst(ART) Intensive Ceramic Art Workshop
Future Dates: Winter Semester Saturdays, TBD Location: B-66 at Brigham Young University (see map) Cost: $120 Grades: 6 - 12 Time: 10am - 2pm WHAT THE FEE INCLUDES
Instruction with experienced BYU Art Education students and faculty All clay, materials, tools needed, glazes and firings. Students will receive a ceramic art kit and sketchbook to take home afterwards. In this class, students will learn wheel-throwing techniques with options for both basic and more advanced skills depending on the students' skill level. They will also learn hand-building techniques and apply these to more complex forms. Sketchbook practice will allow students to test out ideas in 2-D before committing to 3-D forms. Students will have the option to paint and/or glaze finished works the final day. |

AT A GLANCE:
Immerse yourself in a college-level curriculum and become part of a creative community, meeting and working with other secondary students, BYU Art Students and Faculty. Participants will have the invaluable opportunity of sharpening their portfolios and getting a taste of college life — all while exploring programs in painting, drawing, and ceramics, modeled after BYU’s undergraduate offerings.
The secondary program is open to all students ages 12-18 seeking to develop their portfolio. Instruction will be adapted to fit the needs of each age/grade level. We will explore many different mediums, new techniques, and learn about historical & contemporary artists. Students will bring home many creative works, as well as techniques for seeing & engaging with the world around them in novel ways.

THE BYU AREA: AN IDEAL CLASSROOM
While experiencing this course on BYU's beautiful and historic Provo campus, you can explore the amazing museum collections at the BYU Museum of Art. You can visit the Wasatch Mountains and the amazing museum collections in Salt Lake City, Provo, and Springville, or perhaps make a trip to Park City, home of the International Sundance Film Festival. If you're feeling really adventurous, you may even choose to wander through the world famous slot canyons and red rocks in Zion, Bryce Canyon, Moab, Arches, and St. George.
EXPECTATIONS
Students will be held to collegiate level of conduct. They will be expected to maintain high levels of respect for their peers and teachers, and cultivate openness to alternative methods of thinking and working. If disturbances occur, students may be asked to leave the classroom. Students will also be expected to respect the materials.
FIELD TRIPS
We will take walking field trips to the BYU Museum of Art. We will also occasionally go outside (as weather permits) to sketch and collect natural materials for artworks.
LODGING
Lodging and accommodations are not included in the registration fee, but feel free to email us for housing possibilities on and around campus.
MEDICATIONS
Our staff and students are not trained to administer any type of medication. Please inform us of special circumstances.
SICKNESS
If a student arrives with symptoms of illness, he/she will not be permitted to stay.
EMERGENCIES
