WHAT THE FEE INCLUDES
One-on-one arts instruction with BYU Art Education Students
Art kit (including a 9”x12” spiral sketchbook, watercolor set, 12 pack of colored pencils, small box of crayons and a glue stick — and your student will be able to keep the kit at the end of the program), and other necessary supplies

Elementary workshops and classes, hosted by Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, allow your student to engage in creative play, learn new skills, and work one-on-one with BYU Art Education students and faculty.

With mentoring from BYU faculty, BYU students studying elementary art methods create curriculum specifically designed for their 5-12 year old students.  Ratios are never higher than 4 students to each teacher, so students get a lot of personal attention as they develop their unique styles.

We will explore many different mediums and techniques, and learn about famous artists. Your student will bring home many creative works, a kit to continue creating, and new skills for seeing & engaging with the world.

Because curriculum is always personalized, the experience is different every semester.

There are a limited number of scholarships available.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
THE BYU AREA: AN IDEAL CLASSROOM
While experiencing this course on BYU's beautiful and historic Provo campus, your student can explore the amazing museum collections at the BYU Museum of Art.

EXPECTATIONS / SAFETY
For our classes to run smoothly, each student must follow BYU jump st(art) rules.  Our major rule is respect — respect for each other, the materials and the class.  Because we will be using many different art supplies, students will need to listen and follow specific directions for the safety of themselves and others.

DISCIPLINE
Our discipline policy is as follows:  For first or minor disturbances, students will be pulled aside, receive a verbal warning and, depending on the severity, may not be able to participate in the activity.  Continued disobedience will result in a talk with parents and a behavior plan.  If the behavior still continues, they will be removed from the BYU jumpst(art) program.  If at any time a child’s behavior becomes unmanageable or unsafe, we will call and request that they be picked up.

FIELD TRIPS
We will take walking field trips to the BYU Museum of Art.  We will also occasionally go outside (as weather permits) to sketch and collect natural materials for artworks.

MEDICATIONS
Our staff and students are not trained to administer any type of medication.  Please inform us of special circumstances.

SICKNESS
If a child arrives with symptoms of illness, he/she will not be permitted to stay.

EMERGENCIES
In case of an emergency, you may email byu.jumpstart@gmail.com.  If your child cannot attend for the day please notify us ahead of time.
